Herbalife Halal Certification: The Full Certified Product List
Herbalife halal certification is issued product by product and plant by plant, not as a single brand-wide approval. Two certification bodies — IFANCA (Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America) and HFCE (Halal Food Council of Europe) — have issued halal certificates naming 90 Herbalife product lines across five manufacturing facilities in the USA, Italy and Germany. Twelve Formula 1 flavours, both Formula 2 multivitamins, Beta Heart, Night Mode, Protein Drink Mix, Tri Blend Select, Niteworks, the Instant Herbal Beverage tea range, Herbal Aloe Concentrate and AloeMax all appear on those certificates by product code. Certification attaches to a formulation made at an audited plant, so a certified product keeps its certified composition for as long as neither changes. Herbalife’s chewable Gels range is not halal certified: Herbalife states it contains bovine gelatine and fish oil.

Halal certification is one of the most searched questions about Herbalife in the UK, and most answers give a flat yes or a flat no. Neither is accurate. A halal certificate covers a defined list of products made at a defined factory, and Herbalife manufactures across several sites in the USA and Europe, each audited separately.
This guide reproduces what the certificates actually say — the certifying body, the plant address, the product name and the internal product code for every line — then maps those lines to the products sold in this shop. Every certificate page is reproduced below so the source can be read directly rather than taken on trust.
Is Herbalife halal? The precise answer
Herbalife holds halal certificates for a specific list of named products, not for its entire catalogue. Each certificate names a single manufacturing plant plus the individual products audited at that site, and each is signed by the president of the issuing body.
This structure matters in practice. Formula 1 Cookie Crunch is certified under code F3897 at the Fine Foods plant in Lombardy; Formula 1 Salted Caramel, produced later, does not appear on any certificate in this set. Both are Formula 1, both are sold in the UK, and only one has a certificate behind it.
The three-part rule for reading any halal certificate
- The body — who audited it, and whether that body is recognised in your market.
- The plant — certification follows the factory, not the brand name on the pack.
- The product code — the internal code, such as F3717, is what ties a certificate line to one specific flavour and pack size.
Who issues the certificates: IFANCA and HFCE
Two independent organisations appear on the Herbalife halal documents, and they issue in pairs: for every plant, IFANCA and HFCE produce a certificate on the same date covering the same product list. This is a common arrangement where a manufacturer wants recognition in both North American and European markets.
| Certification body | Based in | Established | Signed by |
|---|---|---|---|
| IFANCA — Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America | Des Plaines, Illinois, USA | 1982, not-for-profit | Muhammad Munir Chaudry, Ph.D., President |
| HFCE — Halal Food Council of Europe | Rue de la Presse 4, Brussels, Belgium | 2010, non-profit | Mujahid Masood, Ph.D., President |
IFANCA has operated as a not-for-profit since 1982 and uses the registered Crescent-M service mark. It is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to certify halal products under OIC/SMIIC 2:2011, the international guideline for bodies providing halal certification. HFCE is a Brussels-based certification body founded in 2010, registration number 827964482, accredited by the Turkish Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK).
Neither body is a UK government scheme. There is no single statutory halal authority in the United Kingdom, so British Muslim consumers who follow a specific domestic scheme such as HMC or HFA should note that an IFANCA or HFCE certificate is a different document, even where the underlying audit is equivalent.
What a certificate certifies, and what renewal means
This is the part that causes the most confusion, so it is worth setting out plainly. A halal certificate is not issued to a brand and it is not issued for a period of time in the way a passport is. It is issued to a formulation produced at a named facility. The audit examines the ingredient specification, the suppliers behind each ingredient, and the production line those ingredients pass through.
What that means in practice is that the assessment is tied to two things staying the same: the recipe and the factory. Neither of those changes on a date in a calendar.
What actually triggers a new halal assessment
- A new product. A flavour or format that did not exist at the time of the audit has never been assessed and needs its own certificate and its own code.
- A reformulation. If the ingredient specification changes, the product on the shelf is no longer the product that was assessed, and it must be reviewed again.
- A change of supplier or plant. An ingredient sourced from a different supplier, or the same product moved to a different facility, changes the chain that was audited.
Where none of these apply, the basis on which a product was assessed is the same basis that applies today. A renewal date passing is an administrative step in the certifier’s audit cycle. It is not a finding against the product, it does not follow any adverse result, and it does not alter the composition of what is inside the pack.
The certificates reproduced in this guide therefore do two jobs. They record which exact formulations and which exact plants have been examined and passed by IFANCA and HFCE — information that changes only when the product itself changes. And they give you a product code, which is the one piece of data precise enough to request the current-cycle document for a specific item if you want one in your own hands.
| Document | Issued | Renewal date on the certificate | Plants covered |
|---|---|---|---|
| IFANCA & HFCE, doc. 4237.4240 | 25 July 2023 | 29 February 2024 | Fine Foods, Italy |
| IFANCA & HFCE, doc. 4237.9482 | 21 August 2023 | 29 February 2024 | Winston-Salem, USA |
| IFANCA & HFCE, five documents | 20 February 2024 | 28 February 2025 | All five plants |
| Lakewood Kashrus kosher letter | 1 June 2024 | 31 May 2025 | Herbalife International, worldwide |
Read across the rows and the pattern is visible: the 2023 documents were renewed in 2024, and the same products carry the same codes in both cycles. That continuity is the useful signal here, and it is why the product code matters more than the date.

How to read pack-size differences
Certification attaches to a product code, and a code is specific to a formula and a pack size. Where a UK pack size matches the certificate exactly — the 51 g teas, the 588 g Protein Drink Mix, the 229 g Beta Heart, the 500 g Raspberry & White Chocolate — the match is direct. Where the shop stocks a size the certificate does not name, such as Formula 1 Vanilla Cream 780 g or the 350 g Rebuild Strength sachet box, the pack is not covered by the line shown.
The 240 g protein powder is the one line worth explaining. It appears three times across the set under two different names — "Personalized Protein Powder 240 g" (F0635) and "Performance Protein Powder 240 g" (F0879 and F1531) — from three different plants. The 240 g pack sold in the UK is named Formula 3 Personalised Protein Powder. The pack size and the naming convention line up, but no document in this set states the codes are interchangeable, so all three are reported as printed.
The complete certified list, plant by plant
Every product line named across the certificate set is reproduced below, grouped by the manufacturing plant on each document. Names are given as they appear on the certificate, which is why several differ from the retail names used in the UK.

What the certificates do not cover
The most important sentence in this guide is also the one most often skipped elsewhere: a product being absent from these certificates does not mean it is not halal. It means no certificate covering that product appears in this document set, which can happen for reasons unrelated to the ingredients.
- The plant was never submitted for audit. Halal certification is voluntary and paid for by the manufacturer, site by site. A facility producing entirely compliant products can simply have no certificate.
- The product launched after the audit. Formula 1 Salted Caramel, Dubai Style Chocolate, Strawberry Watermelon and the Mango Dragon Fruit tea are not named on any certificate in this set.
- The pack size differs. A 780 g canister carries a different product code from the 550 g canister of the same flavour, and only the coded size is covered.
- Cosmetics are a separate category. The Herbalife SKIN and HL/Skin ranges are not covered by these food certificates, and Herbalife’s own product information states the HL/Skin range is not halal certified.
Products stocked in this shop that do not appear on any halal certificate in this set include Xtra-Cal, Microbiotic Max, Immune Booster, Phyto Complete, Active Mind Complex, Herbalifeline Max, Collagen Skin Booster, Protein Bake Mix, the Protein Bars and Protein Chips, High Protein Iced Coffee, the Formula 1 Express meal bars, and most of the Herbalife24 range including CR7 Drive, Hydrate, Prolong, Restore, Creatine+ and the Achieve Bars. Many of these do appear on the kosher certificate, which is a broader document — see the kosher section below.
Where a product genuinely carries an ingredient that would fail a halal assessment, that is a separate matter with a documented answer, and it applies to exactly one part of the range.
Herbalife Gels and gelatine
Herbalife chewable Gels are not halal certified
Herbalife’s own product information for the chewable Gels range — MindVita Kids, NutrientVita Kids, CoQ10Vita and ViewVita — states that the gels are not currently halal certified, that they are made with bovine gelatine and fish oil, and that they may therefore not be suitable for those following a halal diet. Full details are set out in the Herbalife Gels FAQ.
The reason is worth understanding, because it explains most gelatine questions across the supplement industry. Gelatine is made from the collagen of animal hides and bones. Bovine gelatine does not come from a prohibited animal, but its halal status still depends on how the source animal was slaughtered. Without a certified halal slaughter chain behind the raw material, bovine gelatine cannot be declared halal, which is precisely the position Herbalife describes for the Gels line.
This is also why format is the first thing to check on any supplement. Powders, tablets and drink concentrates rarely contain gelatine. Chewable gels, softgels and capsule shells frequently do.
Herbalife kosher certification
Herbalife also holds kosher certification, issued separately and by a different authority. The letter comes from the Lakewood Kashrus Organization in Lakewood, New Jersey, signed by Rabbi Yosef Tesler as Administrator with Rabbi Yitzhak Abadi as Halachic Authority, and certifies the listed products as Kosher and Pareve under Lakewood Kashrus supervision.
The kosher document is far broader than the halal set: 23 pages and 869 numbered product lines, against 90 lines on the halal certificates. Products stocked in this shop that appear on the kosher list but not on any halal certificate include Xtra-Cal, Phyto Complete, Active Mind Complex, Herbalifeline Max, Protein Bake Mix, Protein Drink Mix Vegan Vanilla, High Protein Iced Coffee, the Barbecue Protein Chips, the Achieve Bars, Herbalife24 Creatine, Hydrate, Prolong and Restore, and the Formula 1 Express meal bars.
The Dairy marking is the detail to read
The letter states that every product on the lists which is dairy is individually marked "Dairy", and the rest are Pareve — neither meat nor dairy. This distinction runs through the whole document. Formula 1 Cafe Latte 550 g (F3380) is marked Dairy, Herbalife24 Rebuild Strength Chocolate is marked Dairy, and the Deluxe Protein Bars are marked Dairy, while the Herbal Tea Concentrate range, Herbal Aloe Concentrate and Niteworks carry no Dairy marking. For anyone keeping meat and dairy separate, the marking is the operative information, not the certificate as a whole.
How to check any product yourself
Because certification is granted product by product, the reliable approach is to check the individual item rather than the brand. Four steps cover almost every case.
- Match the product code, not just the name. The code on the certificate ties to one flavour and one pack size. A different size of the same flavour is a different line.
- Read the full ingredient list. Every product page in this shop publishes the complete ingredient list from the official label. Gelatine, carmine (E120), shellac (E904), L-cysteine and mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids are the entries that most often need a source check.
- Use the vegan list as a shortcut. A product certified vegan contains no animal-derived ingredient at all, which removes gelatine and every other animal-source question in one step. The Herbalife vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free list sets out which products qualify.
- Ask for the certificate if you want it in writing. For any product code in the tables above, the certificate document can be requested before you order.

The products below all appear by product code on the IFANCA and HFCE certificates reproduced in this guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is Herbalife halal certified?
Partly. Herbalife holds halal certificates issued by IFANCA and HFCE covering 90 named product lines produced at five manufacturing plants in the USA, Italy and Germany. There is no single certificate covering the entire Herbalife catalogue, so the accurate answer is always product-specific rather than brand-wide.
Does an expired renewal date mean the product is no longer halal?
No. A halal certificate is issued to a formulation produced at a named plant, and the renewal date is a step in the certifier’s audit cycle rather than a finding about the product. What triggers a fresh assessment is a change: a new product, a reformulation, a new ingredient supplier or a new production site. Where the recipe and the factory are unchanged, the basis on which the product was assessed is unchanged, and a date passing does not alter what is inside the pack.
Is Herbalife Formula 1 halal?
Twelve Formula 1 flavours appear on the certificates by product code, all produced at the Fine Foods N.T.M. plant in Lombardy, Italy. Of the flavours sold in the UK, the certified ones are Vanilla Cream (F3915), Banana (F3717), Smooth Chocolate (F3918), Cookie Crunch (F3897), Mint Chocolate (F3735), Raspberry and White Chocolate (F4005), Cafe Latte (F3728), Summer Berries (F3730) and Strawberry (F1859). Salted Caramel, Dubai Style Chocolate and Strawberry Watermelon are not named on any certificate in this set.
Are Herbalife Gels halal?
No. Herbalife’s product information states that the chewable Gels range is not currently halal certified because it is made with bovine gelatine and fish oil, and may therefore not be suitable for those following a halal diet. This applies to MindVita Kids, NutrientVita Kids, CoQ10Vita and ViewVita.
Is Herbalife tea halal?
Yes, for the 51 g packs sold in the UK. The Classical, Peach, Raspberry and Lemon 51 g packs are named under codes FF004947, FF004948, FF004956 and FF004955 from the Winston-Salem plant, and the 102 g Original pack under code F2906. The Mango Dragon Fruit 102 g flavour is not named on any certificate in this set.
Is Herbalife Formula 2 halal?
Both Formula 2 multivitamins are named on the Fine Foods certificate: Vitamin and Mineral Complex Men under codes F3421 and FF004983, and Vitamin and Mineral Complex Women under codes F3422 and FF004986, each as a 60-tablet pack.
Do Herbalife products contain pork or gelatine?
The only gelatine documented across the products discussed here is bovine gelatine in the chewable Gels range, not porcine. For every other product, the complete ingredient list is published on its individual product page, and powders, tablets, drink concentrates and tea powders do not typically contain gelatine at all.
Is Herbalife kosher?
Herbalife holds kosher certification from the Lakewood Kashrus Organization in New Jersey, signed by Rabbi Yosef Tesler and Rabbi Yitzhak Abadi, dated 1 June 2024. The letter certifies the listed products as Kosher and Pareve, with any dairy-containing item individually marked Dairy. The document runs to 23 pages and 869 product lines, making it considerably broader than the halal certificate set.
Are IFANCA and HFCE certificates recognised in the UK?
There is no single statutory halal authority in the United Kingdom, so no certificate is legally mandatory here. IFANCA is a US not-for-profit operating since 1982 and accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board under OIC/SMIIC 2:2011; HFCE is a Brussels body founded in 2010 and accredited by the Turkish Halal Accreditation Agency. Consumers who specifically follow a UK domestic scheme such as HMC or HFA should note that these are different certifying bodies.
